S&S and T&Q present: Doom, Improvisation & Noise
Our first live music event of 2026
S&S and T&Q invite you to an evening of live sound, experimentation, and connection. Doom, Improvisation & Noise brings together artists working at the edges of genre for a night that celebrates curiosity, creativity, and community.
Join us on 7th March at Star and Shadow Cinema, Newcastle, as we kick off our 2026 programme with an immersive live music experience. Whether you’re already embedded in the strange and wonderful, or simply intrigued by the unfamiliar, you’re warmly invited to come and experience it with us.
Featuring:
TAUPE (Minority Records) – Glasgow
With a sound that slips between freeform improvisation, abrasive noise, and crushing doom riffs, Taupe operate in the space where chaos and control collide. Their music lurches from sour, skronking sonics to hypnotic precision, driven by an uncanny collective intuition. Rooted in a strong DIY ethos, Taupe balance no-wave disorder with modern rhythmic exactitude, channelling the spirit of acts like DNA or James Chance alongside the focus of groups such as Horse Lords or goat (jp). Their live shows pulse with anarchic energy and playful irreverence, stripping away any hint of self-seriousness. This adventurous approach has earned them support from BBC 6 Music’s Freak Zone, BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction and Freeness, alongside appearances at REWIRE Festival (The Hague) and support slots for Deerhoof, Richard Dawson & Circle, and Melt Banana.
