Join thousands around the world in sollidarity to celebrate Palestine Cinema Days with an outdoor screening of With Hasan in Gaza by Kamal Aljafari on the Blue Carpet. The Wayfaring Cinema - a mobile screen - is collaborating with Star and Shadow to bring artist Kamal Aljafari's documentary to the centre of Newcaslte.

Constructed from three MiniDV tapes artist and filmmaker Kamal Aljafari recorded in 2001, when he visited the Gaza Strip to try locate a former cellmate from his time in prison as a 17 year old in the late 1980s, With Hasan in Gaza is a reflection on loss and memory, and a paean to the Palestinian people. The search leads to an unexpected road trip from the north to the south of Gaza with Hasan, a local guide whose fate remains unknown.

As an act of collective refusal against erasure, Palestine Cinema Days Around the World takes place annually on 02 November. On the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, we gather across continents to confront a history that continues to shape our present. More than a century after a colonial promise made over Palestinian land and lives, we come together to say: Palestinians are still here. Palestinian stories are still alive. Palestinian voices remain impossible to silence.

The screening takes place outside, and it will be very cold, so bring plenty of warmth. There are 20 deckchairs that you can pre-book, but otherwise please bring your own chair. The event starts at 6pm, and the film will begin at 7pm, followed by a conversation around the firebowl. There will be hot drinks and popcorn available. Free to attend, with donations welcome for costs and Medical Aid for Palestine..

As the festival organisers say, in 2026, let the image be our witness and the screen our common ground. While the world teeters on the edge of further conflict, let us gather to honor life, preserve memory, and demand a future defined by justice.
